What this says

As at Fri 9 Oct 2026

Daan Visser reported degraded search performance starting approximately one week before the report; Kate Ormerod found no infrastructure issues and suggested query complexity.

Problem: Daan Visser reported searching for merchant data, disputes and transaction volumes has become slow, with queries taking much longer to return results. Handling: Kate Ormerod checked infrastructure logs and found no issues on BG-Demo's side, suggesting the problem is query complexity and recommended narrowing filters or date ranges. Watch: Performance degradation without infrastructure cause may indicate inadequate indexing or rapid customer data growth. Root cause remains unconfirmed.

We've noticed that searching for merchant data in the brain has become quite slow over the last week or so. Dashboards are still responsive, but when we run searches for specific merchant transaction patterns or disputes, the queries take a long time to return results. Has something changed on your end, or is this something we need to look into on our side?

Thanks for reporting this. Can you tell me a bit more about which searches are slow? Are you searching across all merchants, or filtering by specific fields? Also, roughly how many records are we talking about in your database? That'll help me figure out what's happening.

We're usually searching across all our merchant data, disputes and transaction volumes. The slowdown started around last Monday.

Thanks. I've checked our infrastructure logs and didn't see any issues on our end last Monday. Slow search on large datasets is often down to the complexity of the query itself. Can you try adjusting any filters or narrowing the date range on one of the slower searches and let me know if that helps? If not, we can dig deeper.
