What this says
Current to 12 Oct 26Users couldn't save dashboards, receiving permission denied errors despite having read access and being able to run queries. Bethan identified missing metadata schema write grant as the cause.
Problem: Users could read data and run queries but dashboard save failed with schema write error. Handling: Bethan identified that schema-level access wasn't sufficient; dashboards require write access to the metadata schema. He requested the role name to provide the exact Snowflake grant statement. Watch: This was blocking merchant risk team from starting dashboard development.

- created · Jonas Albrecht 8 Apr 2026 16:17Hi, Users are getting a permission denied error when they try to save dashboards. I've checked the Snowflake schema grants, they're correct. Users can read the data fine and run queries. But the save operation fails every time. The merchant risk team is ready to start building dashboards and this is blocking them. Need it fixed today if possible. Jonas
- public_reply · Bethan Lister 8 Apr 2026 16:54Just so I've got this right: users can read the data fine, they can run queries, but when they click save on a dashboard they get a permission denied error? Can you tell me the exact error message they're seeing?
- public_reply · Jonas Albrecht 9 Apr 2026 09:31Right. Queries work, they see the results. When they click save on a dashboard, it fails: 'Permission denied: cannot write to schema'. I've checked, they have write access to the schema. I granted it with GRANT ALL ON SCHEMA to the role. Jonas
- public_reply · Bethan Lister 9 Apr 2026 10:39Ah, I see it. Schema-level access isn't enough, dashboards need write access to the metadata schema. One extra Snowflake grant. Can you message me the role name? I'll send you the exact statement to run. Try it and let me know if the save goes through. Thanks, Bethan
