How-to query on configuring dashboard and field-level access controls by team. Customer asking for layered permissions; supported and documented.

Problem: Linnea wanted to set up user access so different teams could see only their relevant data within dashboards and specific fields. Handling: Olivia explained that dashboard-level and field-level permissions can be layered together, confirmed they're fully supported, and provided step-by-step documentation.

I'm setting up user access for different teams in our organisation and I want to make sure I'm configuring permissions correctly. We have separate teams for e-commerce, customer service, and insight, and I'd like each team to only see their relevant data. Is there a best practice way to do this in the system?

Hi Linnea, good question. Depending on your tier, you have a couple of options. The simplest is using dashboard-level permissions, where you control who sees which dashboards. For more granular access by data type, you'd need to set that up at the saved query level. Which approach fits your team structure better?

Actually, thinking about it more, we'd like both. Some dashboards are team-specific, but within those dashboards we also want to limit access to certain data fields by team. Is that supported?

Yes, that's fully supported. You can layer both dashboard permissions and field-level access. I'll send you a doc with the step-by-step setup and you can take it from there. Let me know if any of it is unclear and we can walk through it together.
