What this says
Current to 12 Oct 26Struan Mackay asked Hannah Lowe for a reference architecture and wants a Snowflake account in a UK region. He plans a new account with the smallest footprint. The supplier-risk questionnaire waits on Morag confirming she wants to proceed.
Ask: Struan needs to answer his risk committee on where member and broker data sits and what leaves the account. Hannah confirmed a UK region works and sent the reference architecture.
Customer view: He found it clearer than expected and wants to start with the smallest footprint, widening only if needed. CRM and call recorder come first, then mailboxes.
Next: Hannah owes a written answer on which optional flows are needed for a basic evaluation. Struan will forward the questionnaire once it arrives.

- Struan Mackay 14 Apr 2026 13:35Hannah, Morag suggested I write to you directly. I'm scoping the Snowflake account we would use if we go ahead with BB-Demo, and I'd like to get the shape of it right before I raise anything with our infrastructure team. Two things I need to settle. First, we want the account in a UK region, because our risk committee will ask where member and broker data sits and I would rather answer that once. Second, I need to understand what BB-Demo actually puts into that account and what, if anything, leaves it. Do you have a reference architecture you can share? Ideally something I can pass to our security and supplier-risk colleagues without having to translate it. Thanks, Struan Data Platform Lead, Corstorphine Building Society
- Hannah Lowe 14 Apr 2026 15:16Hi Struan, Thanks for this, and good to be in touch. I've copied Tom so he can see where we've got to. The short answer is: yes, a UK region is fine, and the brain runs inside your Snowflake account, so it sits wherever you create that account. The longer answer is in the attached reference architecture, but to be precise about the two points you raised: - What goes in: the connected sources (your CRM, call recorder, mailboxes, helpdesk and so on) are loaded into schemas in your account, and the pages, search and chat layer is built over those schemas. You own the account, the roles and the keys. - What leaves: the diagram marks every flow in and out. I'll put in writing exactly which of those are optional, because that is the part your risk colleagues will want to read line by line. A few questions that will help me tailor it. Is this a brand new Snowflake account or an existing one? Which sources do you expect to connect first? And is there a named person on your side who would own the roles and access model? On the security questionnaire, I'd rather check anything specific with a colleague on our side than guess, so send me whatever you have and I'll come back with answers I can stand behind. Thanks, Hannah
- Struan Mackay 14 Apr 2026 18:06Hannah, Thanks, that's clearer than I expected and the diagram is useful. To answer your questions: it would be a new account, set up for this purpose rather than bolted onto anything existing. I would own the roles and access model myself to begin with, and I'd expect to hand day-to-day admin to a colleague in my team later. For sources, I think the broker-facing CRM and the call recorder come first, then mailboxes. Morag's team will have a view on the order. One thing I'm not sure about: where the diagram shows the optional flows, can you tell me which of them we would need to switch on for a basic evaluation, and which can stay off? I'd like to start with the smallest footprint and widen it only if we need to. Our supplier-risk team will send the questionnaire once Morag has confirmed she wants to proceed. I'll forward it to you as soon as I have it. Kind regards, Struan
